Blackmagic Design Video Assist 7 Inch 12G HDR Monitor and Recorder

The Blackmagic Design Video Assist 7 inch 12G HDR is the top of the Video Assist range — a larger 2500 nit HDR screen, professional balanced audio inputs, two card slots for continuous recording, and LANC remote control.

Screen
7 inch touchscreen at 1920 x 1200, 2500 nits, P3 wide colour gamut, with HDR10 and Hybrid Log Gamma. The taller 1200 pixel panel leaves room for scopes and status alongside a full 1920 x 1080 image.

Balanced audio inputs
2 x balanced mini XLR inputs with 48V phantom power, so studio and shotgun microphones connect straight to the recorder. This is the practical reason to choose the 7 inch over the 5 inch: sound goes onto the same file as picture, without a separate audio recorder to sync in post.

Dual card slots
2 x UHS-II SD card slots for Ultra HD (regular SD for HD), with recording relaying from one card to the next so long takes never stop for a card change. Plus USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 1 for recording directly to an external drive.

Connections
1 x 12G-SDI input and 1 x 12G-SDI output supporting 270Mb, 1.5G, 3G, 6G and 12G, with 16 channels of embedded audio in and out. 1 x HDMI 2.0a input and output with 8 channels of embedded audio. 3.5mm headphone output and built-in mono speaker. 1 x 2.5mm LANC port for record start and stop from a camera or rig control.

Recording
Blackmagic RAW (Constant Bitrate 3:1, 5:1, 8:1 and 12:1; Constant Quality Q0 and Q5), Apple ProRes 422 HQ, 422, LT and Proxy, and DNxHR HQX, SQ and LB with MXF variants. Up to 2160p60 Ultra HD and 4K DCI to 30p, 10-bit 4:2:2, REC 601, 709 and 2020.

Monitoring tools
Waveform, RGB Parade, Vector and RGB Histogram as picture-in-picture or overlay with opacity control, with Waveform and Parade in both standard and HDR modes. 3D LUT support, focus and exposure assist.

Power
External 12V supply, and compatible with Sony NP-F style batteries. Batteries not included.
