Frequently Asked Questions

Which drums is the PDM34 designed for?

Snare and rack or floor toms. It is tuned for the mid and upper range where a snare's crack and a tom's attack live. For the kick drum you want the PDM33 instead, which is built for the low end and the much higher sound pressure inside a bass drum.

How do I mount and position the PDM34 on a kit?

Aim it over the rim, two to five centimetres above the head and angled in towards the centre of the drum. Closer to the centre gives more attack, closer to the rim gives more ring. Keep it clear of the drummer's stick path, which is the usual reason a tom mic gets knocked out of position mid-set.

Does the PDM34 need phantom power?

No. It is a dynamic microphone, so it needs nothing but a balanced XLR cable into a mixer input. Dynamic capsules are the standard choice on drums because they tolerate very high sound pressure and the occasional stick strike far better than condensers.
